Shared ATM network in Luxembourg: more than 200 ATMs being rolled out
Published on 2 September 2026
Five Luxembourg banks partnering in the “Bancomat” project are launching their shared ATM network. Phase 1 is underway.
The announcement was made on 21 November 2023. Three years later, the six banks originally involved are now down to five.
Spuerkeess, BIL, BGL, Raiffeisen and POST are rolling out their shared ATM network, named “Bancomat“, this summer. In practice, every ATM of the five banks is joining this new network, which will be accessible to all their customers.
Customers will benefit from a wider offering than their own bank’s network alone provides today. BCEE recently informed its customers that “Luxembourg’s leading banks are joining forces to offer a more efficient ATM network”.
More than 200 ATMs are planned to provide “greater proximity, simplicity, familiarity and convenience”. The bank also states that users will “gradually benefit from new services and features, such as contactless withdrawals via Wallet (Apple Pay and Samsung Pay) or dynamic currency conversion”.
A gradual rollout
Phase 1 of this large-scale project began in summer 2026, with the gradual replacement of “existing ATMs”. The first ATMs will only allow cash withdrawals, with no other features for the time being. This will take place “alongside the continued operation of the existing ATM network”.
“During this transitional phase, withdrawals made with a credit card will only be available as deferred debit. To support our customers during this period, Spuerkeess will cover the fees for these transactions until direct-debit withdrawals with a credit card become available in a second phase.”
The municipality of Rumelange has announced that the installation of a Bancomat ATM is underway at the location of the current Spuerkeess ATM in the town.
The works began on 26 August and “will continue until 31 August”. The new ATM should be operational “from 7 September”.
Phase 2 is scheduled for late 2026 and early 2027, followed by phase 3 in summer 2027, when the rollout should be fully completed. “The S-Bank network will then be shut down”, as will those of the other partner banks. The end of an era.
