That is, in a way, the motto of the LuxConstellation project, presented two years ago by Spuerkeess, Banque Internationale à Luxembourg (BIL), BGL BNP Paribas, Raiffeisen, POST Luxembourg and ING Luxembourg.

The project was originally due to be completed in 2025, but it will ultimately begin in the first quarter of 2026, initially with a pilot phase, as confirmed by the heads of the Retail Banking Cluster (RBCL) of the Luxembourg Bankers’ Association (ABBL) during the presentation of the retail banking study results held on 23 October. In practical terms, customers will no longer be able to distinguish between an ING ATM (currently orange), a BIL ATM (pink) or a Spuerkeess ATM (red), as they will all look the same.

58 ATMs per 100,000 inhabitants

Details of the final number of ATMs that will remain in service have not yet been disclosed. However, according to figures presented on 23 October, both the number of bank branches and the number of ATMs fell by 8% between 2023 and 2024. Although cash withdrawals from ATMs declined by 7% in 2024, half of Luxembourg residents want to retain the option of paying in cash, according to an ECB study. Claude Hirtzig, chair of the retail banking cluster and head of retail banking at Spuerkeess, was very clear: “We do not intend to make cash disappear; more than half of residents remain attached to it for paying for their purchases.” He added: “Only 13% of residents consider access to cash withdrawals difficult.”

Luxembourg had 58 ATMs per 100,000 inhabitants in 2024. This is below the European average of 46, as well as the French figure (63) and German figure (59), but well above the Belgian figure (31) and Dutch figure (28) – sources: EAST, ECB & ABBL/CSSF Retail Banking Survey 2025. Similarly, the Grand Duchy has 26 bank branches per 100,000 inhabitants, below France (49) but above Germany (23), Belgium (14) and the Netherlands (6).

[5

post-171","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-actualite
["GET
